I have been spending some time at Shinya's work shop. From the little of him self that he shares as he is quite shy I see a man who has in common with me a lot of the same life choices and motivations. We are only acquaintances but I hope that I can be friend him one day soon as I have only ever met a hand full of others who are walking the same line. His skills are individual and un swayed by current trends. Living out of town, I feel such a place must give him less distractions from the rat race most subject them selves to.

This weekend I will be meeting him out at the Dry lakes to watch him try to make the 120 mph on his bike. With some modification since his last attempt he assures me it is possible. I have no doubt he will make the mark. I'm going to show my support and offer a hand if needed. Being from Australia I've never had the chance to attend any speed trials so I'm pretty excited about it.

This is going to be a lot like 1/4 mile Style. I made the frame to suit a 16inch Firestone and ride nice and low. Tiger's running a bare metal tank and guard. So when I chopped the tank to sit level over the engine head I was careful to make the welds seamless.

Top and bottom leather cut and lacing holes punched. Wet moulded and stitched at the front. Keeps a nice contour without creasing but also adds a handmade feel to it. Next is to lace it all up with a Mexican Basket Weave or Round Braid. Real strong, good coverage and looks like a big old whip snaking it's way around the seat. Should be done lacing in a couple days........ had to wait for the leather supply shop to reopen and cut more lace for me.

Working on a custom leather seat for Stephan's 64 Pan. He sent us a neat seat pan and I shaped up some foam for it. Now it's time to cut some hide.

This bike came to Slice N Dice as a bit of a ugly duck. It had a ruff motor and was a simple scoot but was looking like it needed some real work to make it cool.

I took everything off the bike. Seat, forks, fenders, wheels, bars, plate, tail light even the tires got the boot.

My mate british Bob is a old school wiz when it comes to working on brit twins so he got the motor and went about giving it a good serve of love and installed electronic ignition so the fucker would start, run and ride.

I shaved the front fender mounts off the forks and gave them a lick of black paint then I did the same to the bates light and trees. The rear fender was an old harley unit I cut down, shaved and then fashioned in to a short number that showed off the new tall Coker double white wall tread. I made up a simple pike nut set of fender struts to hold the fender in place. Also fitted a new 21inch rim up front that is sporting a avon speedmaster. Made up a cats eye tail light and number plate holder, some Z bars and fabricated a skateboard wheel chain tensioner.

Now she kicks over first go and runs a lot better.

I think this style is where its at for most guys. The owner used to say to me once he got the bike back that it was just a sick bike to jump on and ride hard. Not worry about scratches or dirt but just have fun on. That always sounded like a good setup to me. Not to pretty but not a heap of shit, just a sweet ride.

Just started work on Dan's seat that's going on his XS chop. Cool banana seat that will be suspended by a leaf spring. I'll be posting progress shots of the construction, tooling and lacing. Here's were I'm at right now - shaped foam, top, bottom and side patterns cut in 3mm vege tanned leather. Still working on design ideas for the tooling. Stay tuned for the results.

Randy had me cut up a set of headers to make a new set for a corvette project that is running side pipes. They turned out pretty good and should flow some good power from the Alloy 454ci chev he dropped in it. Once their all smoothed out Randy's sending them off to be jethot coated.

This tank was not built using a wood buck. No that would be way to easy. I went off a foam model and free hand shaped it on a bench. Which at first was working out o.k. until I came to the super complex tunnel. It must have 60 hrs in it by now. So I was happy to be doing the finishing touch of fitting the gas cap. Almost done.

We met Monk and Johnny in Japan and they were top guys. It was like finding a couple of long lost pals as we all just clicked and had a ball together. Johnny was telling me about how he and Monk in a couple of days were going to go on a ride with Go from Brat Style. He was super pumped about it. Rolling a wire edge. More work on the fender.

A wire edge is a nice way to finish a fender. It gives the fender a clean rolled edge and stiffens the whole fender up stopping any shaking in the bike. I will discontinue the wire before I roll the round profile to finish the ends of the fender.

30mm out of the guts, patched up the filler hole and cut a new shallow tunnel.
Still patches to be fabbed on front and back and new bung for petcock. Will post the finished result once all welded up.

Mat had a midnight itch to flame his spinner last weekend. We spoke on the phone on the friday night and he was on a misson. About 2 hours later he sent me a txt of the flames all laid down. Crazy licks all over the shop. The next day another txt and it's all masked up. He called me Saturday night about 12.30am out on the town going hard talking about a band I need to see and passing the phone to the lead singer who tells me he loves me. It was clear he was on track to have a big night. I call him the next day to reply to his drunken message and he tells me he got home at 4am got up at 8am and hooked into it. Pulled some big hours and 48hours after he first spoke of it, hard core flames. Some guys talk shit others just go out and make it happpen. Props to ya man.

I'm proud to say I have finished my first batch of 100% hand made tail brake lights. It's been a long time getting this product off the ground but I hope it's one that has a life of its own and ads some sole to your projects. I have put lots of love in to this part and I hope that is reflected in it's form. No two are the same, each one has it's own little imperfections and style.

Making a fender by hand.

I don't get asked to do this that much. Most are happy to buy a fender of some kind, but nothing has the same sole as a hand rolled fender. I use a combination of tools. To move the metal the most I use a wood hammer and a sand "dead blow" hammer. To do my shrinking I made a set of tuck forks and I also use a shrinker. To smooth out the hammer blows I use my English wheel and planishing hammer. What you see here took the most part of a day to do as the fender is quite deep and it takes time to shrink so much metal. I'll keep you updated.

I felt like I almost had total creative control of this project and the customer was on board the hole way, so I couldn't ask for more.

I wanted to really build a 60's show bike and keep it just like the bikes from Ed Roths Chopper Mag. So what you see here is my idea of a friso bike.

I spent lots of time adding fine details on all the fabricated parts I made but the pictures don't capture most of them. Some that you can see here are the brass fuel cap, copper oil lines and head light mount.

The bikes running an origonal 60's wassell tank that I ribbed to ad some detail to.

The owner had purchased the mufflers you see in the pictures so I had to make header pipes t0 work with the bikes stance and balance. For me it was important to keep inside of the lines of the bike frame to create a clean look.

The fender was a cut down and reworked old Harley fender I had in my shop. I cut a large strip out of the middle to narrow it to suit the coker white wall and beat a bead by hand at each end .

The rubbers are from the Barron Speed shop.

The Photos were done by my mate Rollad from Globe. He's got a great eye and a skate back ground which is what I'm all about so we work well together.

The paint is by my good friend Mat Egan. Me and Mat are totally on the same page in taste, style and music so I know he just gets it when I tell him what I want. I also think he is one of the best painter in the world.

I've been doing a bit of the old retoration work on a sorry looking FJ for the last 3 weeks. Was kind of cool to do some sheet metal again. Poor guy who ownes it had it sand blasted. It looked good to but when we had a close look someone had just welded new steal over the old rusted and left all the rust in. I am half way through rebuilding the bottom 150mm of the entire car.

Went to look at a VG coupe I want to buy tonight after work. It was really rusted bad. Looks like it will need almost all the floor, slils, b plillers and hole back parcel shelf and back window sill replaced as well as all around the boot lid. Most of which will need to be hand formed as there is no replacment pannels for these parts. I'm sure there will be loads more as this is just what I could see. Once I open up the sils I think it's going to be bags of rust flakes for as far as i can see. I think after a sand blast it will be a complete rebuild but I feel like a project and now I'm in a bigger shop I could get it on a spit and do the full deal. If I had to put a price on it, it's a 15K job. Lucky I love cars and I'm mental.

Slice N Dice Kustoms is joining Randy's Customs to form a total mind blowing Kustom experiance. Its going to take a number of months for the transition to become complete but it's already been good times in the new shop.

With the new shop comes a new engine building room, frame jig room, fabrication/ production area and assembly room with a glass viewing area from the show room.

Randy, AJ and Rod are old school rod, muscle and classic car builders who are some of the strightest shooters I have met in the trade. I'm helping them out with there kustom fab on a ongoing basis part time while I build Frisco chops, bare bone bobs and demonic Cafe racers.

Taking Pre Production Orders

In order to cover some of the set up costs in producing my new brake light I'm taking some pre production orders for delivery on the 30th of September which will be the very first batch ever made. The winged bezel is sand cast and comes in polished Ally or Brass. The housing is made from spun and polished stainless steel. The Light has a double filament red bulb that is replaceable at any automotive store. These lights are built to last a life time.

The "Fire Fly". $150 Australian plus free postage any were in the world for pre production orders.

Silver or Gold and totaly custom made.

Metal Shapping Classes

I'm thinking of holding some introductory metal shapping classes specificaly aimed at the home bike builder and I'm intersted to see if any one would like to attend.

Some of the diffrent lesson I was thinking of holding are:
1.Making your own metal shapping hand tools and learning to use them
2.Forming a fender from mild steel detailing shrinking and streching techniques.
3.Building a gas tank by hand.
4.Genral chopper fabrication instruction one on one.
5.Tig welding

They would be held at my Gold Coast work shop in burleigh heads, lessons would run from 10 till 4 and would be available any day Monday through to Saturday. The lessons would cost $125 per day and would include lunch, Gloves and all meterials plus you get to take home your custom made parts. I would only be taking a max number of 3 people at a time so you would get lots of hands on instruction and one on one time.

I have finished my battery box. It took a bit of time to hand beat the flange and french the old switch but I am happy with how it turned out. hope you like. The box was made by rolling some 14 gauge to form a pipe welding a cap on one end and rolling some beads into it to give some strength and then hammering out a lid from some 20 gauge. The light switch will be my on/off for the bike electrics.
